Modern Slavery Statement

Alpha Print & Signs is committed to conducting business responsibly and taking reasonable steps to prevent modern slavery, forced labour and human trafficking within our operations and supply chains.

Respect for people, responsible sourcing and ethical business practices.

The Statement

1. Introduction

Alpha Print & Signs is committed to acting ethically and responsibly in the way we conduct our business.

We recognise that modern slavery can occur in many forms, including forced labour, human trafficking, servitude, debt bondage and other forms of exploitation.

We do not tolerate modern slavery or human trafficking within our own operations or, to the best of our knowledge, within our supply chains.

This statement explains the approach Alpha Print & Signs takes to identifying, reducing and responding to modern slavery risks connected with our business.

2. About Alpha Print & Signs

Alpha Print & Signs provides a range of print, signage and branding services to businesses across the UK.

Our services include:

  • commercial print;
  • large format printing;
  • signage;
  • branded workwear;
  • packaging;
  • design and artwork services;
  • modular vehicle wraps and vehicle graphics;
  • installation services; and
  • trade supply.

Our operations rely on a combination of our own team, specialist suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, couriers, subcontractors and service providers.

3. Our Supply Chain

Our supply chain may include suppliers and manufacturers of:

  • paper and card;
  • signage substrates;
  • vinyl and graphics materials;
  • inks and consumables;
  • workwear and garments;
  • promotional products;
  • packaging materials;
  • display products;
  • vehicle wrap materials;
  • fixings and installation materials;
  • machinery and equipment;
  • technology and software;
  • courier and logistics services; and
  • specialist production services.

We recognise that modern slavery risk can vary depending on the product, industry, country of manufacture and complexity of the supply chain.

4. Our Commitment

Alpha Print & Signs is committed to maintaining business practices that respect the dignity and rights of workers.

We expect people working within our business and supply chain to be:

  • employed voluntarily;
  • treated fairly and with respect;
  • free from forced or compulsory labour;
  • free from threats, coercion or exploitation;
  • paid in accordance with applicable legal requirements;
  • provided with appropriate working conditions; and
  • free to leave employment in accordance with applicable law and contractual arrangements.

We do not knowingly work with organisations involved in slavery, human trafficking, forced labour or unlawful exploitation.

5. Supplier Expectations

We expect suppliers and business partners to comply with applicable employment, labour and human-rights legislation.

Where appropriate, we may consider factors such as:

  • supplier reputation;
  • country of manufacture;
  • sourcing practices;
  • employment standards;
  • labour conditions;
  • ethical or social policies;
  • recognised certifications;
  • transparency within the supply chain; and
  • willingness to respond to reasonable requests for information.

Where higher-risk products or supply chains are identified, we may seek further information before continuing or expanding a supplier relationship.

6. Risk Assessment

We recognise that some parts of a supply chain may present greater modern slavery risk than others.

Potential areas of increased risk can include:

  • complex international supply chains;
  • labour-intensive manufacturing;
  • low-cost garment production;
  • outsourced manufacturing;
  • temporary or migrant labour;
  • countries where labour protections may be weaker; and
  • supply chains with limited visibility beyond the immediate supplier.

Workwear and garment sourcing can involve particularly complex global supply chains, and we therefore recognise the importance of considering sourcing practices when selecting suppliers.

We aim to take a proportionate, risk-based approach rather than assuming every supplier presents the same level of risk.

7. Due Diligence

Where appropriate, our supplier due-diligence approach may include:

  • reviewing supplier information;
  • checking company background and reputation;
  • considering where products are manufactured;
  • reviewing available ethical sourcing policies;
  • asking suppliers about labour and employment standards;
  • considering relevant certifications or audit information;
  • assessing potential risks before entering significant supplier relationships; and
  • reviewing concerns raised by customers, staff or other parties.

The level of due diligence will depend on the nature of the product, supplier and potential risk involved.

8. Responsible Purchasing

Purchasing practices can influence working conditions within supply chains.

Where possible, we aim to build reliable long-term relationships with reputable suppliers rather than making purchasing decisions solely on the lowest possible price.

Our purchasing decisions may consider:

  • quality;
  • reliability;
  • compliance;
  • product origin;
  • ethical sourcing;
  • transparency;
  • environmental performance;
  • lead times; and
  • overall value.

Unrealistic pricing or delivery expectations can sometimes contribute to poor labour practices further down a supply chain, so we aim to work with suppliers on commercially reasonable terms.

9. Workwear and Garment Supply

The garment industry can carry elevated risks relating to worker exploitation, particularly where manufacturing takes place through complex international supply chains.

When selecting workwear and garment suppliers, we aim where practical to work with recognised manufacturers and distributors that can provide information about their sourcing standards and supply chains.

Where ethical sourcing information, certifications or supplier policies are available, these may be taken into account when evaluating product ranges.

10. Employees

We are committed to treating our own employees fairly and lawfully.

Our employment practices are intended to ensure that:

  • employment is freely chosen;
  • workers receive appropriate contracts or employment information;
  • pay complies with applicable legal requirements;
  • working hours comply with relevant legislation;
  • unlawful discrimination, harassment and exploitation are not tolerated; and
  • employees can raise concerns without fear of inappropriate retaliation.

We do not retain employees’ identity documents or require employees to pay inappropriate recruitment fees as a condition of employment.

11. Recruitment

Where Alpha Print & Signs recruits directly, we aim to follow fair and lawful recruitment practices.

Where recruitment agencies or labour providers are used, we expect them to operate in accordance with applicable UK employment and recruitment legislation.

We would take concerns seriously where there are indications of:

  • withheld wages;
  • unexplained recruitment charges;
  • confiscated documents;
  • coercion;
  • restrictions on movement;
  • threats; or
  • other signs of exploitation.

12. Raising Concerns

Employees, suppliers, customers and other parties are encouraged to raise concerns if they suspect modern slavery or unethical labour practices connected with our business or supply chain.

Concerns can be reported to:

Email: info@alphaprintandsigns.com
Telephone: 01282 216 416

Reports will be considered seriously and handled appropriately.

Where there is an immediate risk to someone’s safety or suspected criminal activity, concerns may also be reported to the appropriate authorities.

13. Responding to Concerns

If we identify credible concerns relating to modern slavery within our operations or supply chain, we will assess the issue and determine an appropriate response.

Depending on the circumstances, this may involve:

  • seeking further information;
  • discussing the issue with the supplier;
  • requiring corrective action;
  • increasing monitoring;
  • suspending new orders;
  • changing supplier;
  • terminating a commercial relationship; or
  • referring concerns to the appropriate authorities.

We recognise that immediately terminating a supplier relationship is not always the best outcome for affected workers. Current Home Office guidance encourages a victim-centred approach to remediation and warns against responses that could unintentionally make matters worse for workers.

14. Training and Awareness

We aim to promote awareness of modern slavery risks among relevant members of our team.

Where appropriate, employees involved in purchasing, supplier management or recruitment may be encouraged to recognise potential indicators of modern slavery and understand how concerns should be escalated.

As our business and supply chain develop, we will review whether additional training is appropriate.

15. Monitoring Our Approach

We recognise that preventing modern slavery requires ongoing attention rather than a one-off exercise.

We may monitor our approach by considering:

  • supplier information received;
  • concerns raised;
  • supplier reviews;
  • changes in sourcing locations;
  • new product categories;
  • identified high-risk supply chains;
  • actions taken in response to concerns; and
  • opportunities to improve supplier due diligence.

Current statutory guidance identifies six core areas businesses can cover in a modern slavery statement: organisational structure and supply chains, policies, risk assessment, due diligence and remediation, training, and monitoring/evaluation.

16. Continuous Improvement

We acknowledge that supply-chain transparency and modern slavery risk management are areas where businesses must continue to improve.

We aim to strengthen our approach over time by:

  • improving supplier visibility;
  • considering ethical sourcing when evaluating suppliers;
  • requesting additional information where risk justifies it;
  • reviewing relevant guidance;
  • improving staff awareness;
  • maintaining appropriate reporting channels; and
  • reviewing this statement periodically.

17. Our Principles

Zero Tolerance for Exploitation

We do not knowingly tolerate forced labour, human trafficking or modern slavery.

Responsible Sourcing

We aim to work with reputable suppliers that demonstrate responsible business practices.

Fair Treatment

People should be treated with dignity, respect and fairness.

Supply-Chain Awareness

We recognise that risks may exist beyond our immediate suppliers and aim to improve visibility where practical.

Raise Concerns

We encourage concerns to be reported and take credible allegations seriously.

Continuous Improvement

We will continue to review and strengthen our approach as our business grows.
